Givenchy X Erykah Badu X Spring 2014

Erykah Badu is one of my favorite artist, visually, vocally and physically. She embodies originality and never being afraid to push the limits of society and the music industry. She has teamed up with Givenchy for their Spring 2014 line.

The shirt above I need to have in my life immediately! Between Erykah's' influence on fashion and her neo-soul music their is no surprise creative Director Riccardo Tisci wanted to embody her in their Africa-meets-Japan inspired collection.

The French line has pushed the envelop featuring a transgender model, an albino model and chic mother-daughter duos. Tisci believes their needs to be more diversity and embracing of different cultures and ethnicities even on the runway.

Work, Ms. Badu (if ya nasty)!

Music Videos X Jay Z X JT X Chris X Nicki X Lorde X Drake

Here are a few of my favorite songs and their official music videos. Enjoy!

I love this video of Jay Z and Justin Timberlake, "Holy Grail". It was clean yet innovative the way they switched it up. Very Nice.

Dedicated to Chris Brown heading to long term rehab for attacking a photo bomber is his new video with Nicki Minaj. I could watch this video on mute and just watch him dance actually.

My favorite new song has the weirdest video but I don't care I still love the song and Lorde's quirky feel.
Lorde in Royal

Haven't gotten tired of Drake's acting in his video "Hold On, We're Going Home" yet! I think it's safe to say we will be seeing some more acting in the near future!

Dance X Style X SYTYCD

I LIVE!

Dancing and style are two of my favorite things (well aside for food). I have been catching up with SYTYCD when I find the time and found two pieces of dance and style close to my heart.

The first one is Ke$ha themed (stylist/artist) I've been following for years (who is now working with American Apparel ) mixed with Lady Gaga's quirky dancer/choreographer Mark and a bit of a MIA feel. The style is sharp, dancing a bit avant-garde and even a tad drag. You know I love a splash of G0ld with everything! Check out this out of the world routine below!

The second piece is with my favorite dancer of the season, Jasmine along with Amy. They are both so sharp and distinctive in their movement. Let's not skip these costumes!!! With one of my favorite songs "The Diva Dance" from my favorite movie "The Fifth Element" the choreographer captures the novelty and uniqueness of sound. As a stylist I would have done white or blue asymmetrical wigs instead of mere black ones. However, the piece is beautiful, awkward, modelesque and attention capturing. Enjoy!

Official Music Video

Don't get me wrong, I love a good video.
I just need something different sometimes.
Not the same videos of butt shots and coke lines.
The next two videos I absolutely love, and it doesn't hurt that I love the songs too.

Drake ft 2 Chainz "No Lie"

Coldplay ft Rihanna "Princess of China"
The visuals in this video is sickening!

SBTRKT X Roses Gabor "Pharaohs"
I like many genres of music, SBTRKT is a love of mine, "Pharaohs" featuring Roses Gabor being one of my favorite songs and finding the video on VEVO, I had to add it.
Thank me, later.

Truth on Brown: 101

Black Barbie here:
Why is black an ugly word???
Don't listen to webster (the white man) its not evil! It's strong, worthy, dynamite and lethal.
Whats wrong with a brown skin girl.. I said brown NOT caramel
Why is every other song about having a "redbone"?
Promoting the small waist, thick-thighed, good hair (or so they think), redbone chick?
I mean, I have no problem with lightskinned myself, thus having many friends and a good portion of them being light, I hate being referred to as the pretty dark one.. oh and pretty one thats dark. EW!
What happened to promoting beauty period? As many darkskinned girls as light in all the videos?
What happened to Gabrielle Union over Eva Pigford?
Naomi Campbell over Meagan Good?? Who infact has gotten lighter over the years.. hmmM
What happened to the beautiful golden brown Rihanna first started out with?

Whats wrong with a women as strong as natural as Erykah Badu, as strong as Angela Bassatt, as funny as Wanda Sykes, as dynamite as Vivica Fox and as stunning as Kenya Moore???
Do you even know a Kenya Moore?

What happened to that Hershey Bar brown??
That Darker the Berry Sweeter the Juice phrase?
We know thats true right?
Why are we still trying to get back to the idea the whiter, brighter is righter???
WRONGER!

What happened to a woman as down to Earth as Tichina Arnold, with a smile like Kerry Washington and a booty like Serena Williams, with a personality like Nia Long, moves like Janet Jackson, as positive as Queen Latifah and a walk like Iman?
As black as Alek Wek, as soulful as Toni Braxton, a smile like Sharon Leal and a voice like Estelle...

What happened??
Do we want our black race to be destroyed, no more beautiful brown. Controlled by our surroundings so when we find a beautiful brown we turn it around.
I hate the phrase "pretty for a darkskinned girl".
It's the the same as pretty for a black person...
I know that hurts my soul, why hurt our race?

Why can't we listen to songs like Candy Bar, by keith Murray and
Pimpin all over the world, Ludacris and zoom in when he says the most beautiful women come from Africa?!! Our homeland... Why can't we embrace or race instead of trying to find something better?
Take all skin tones and love them for what they are?

One good listen to a couple of Tupac's hits including, "I aint mad at cha", "Keep ya head up" and "Ill be missing you" just soothes my soul.

I'm not ashamed to say I am a B L A C K Barbie, just smarter, more unique and with an edge then your regular one ;-)
IM DARK AND IM PROUD =)

MAYBE IF_

if i was a little lighter id get more comments?
more attention?
breaks?

if i was scandalous id have more views?
friends?
events to go to?

if i was richer, id have more clothes?
things to do throughout the day?
no limits?

ha ha

This would change who i was inside out.. Right?
Is it really better to be lighter a reflection of man's want for a lighter (whiter) woman or the way you are and a unique one at that.
To be listened to and respected for your words, wisdom and thoughts.. however modern they are. For people to say,"Who is that girl??" and mean it for my inward-to-outward demeanor instead of an outward appearance that can easily diminish...
To be on the edge of right, slip up and be slipped into the wrong hands like a bad drug. Influence those in a wrong full manner, to be taken out of a good place in life because noone can handle you, not even yourself. Patience and an antidote is needed but noone is there to feed it..
For more money to attract the wrong things and bring the wrong crowds, by the time i blink my money is gone, along with family, friends, my relationship with God and my future,,,

I'm made this way for a reason I believe, but maybe the reason I have no idea what it is is to be blinded and make waves where waves are needed instead of going straight there and when the job is done so is my existence here...

(i hope im making sense to someone other than myself)

My life is so...
precious
different
stable
authentic
paced
and ready for me to live every second of it.

So here i am.
Upgrade my well-being.
